Nature Therapy

Nature therapy is one part of a whole-person treatment plan built around our guiding principles: restore, reconnect, and renew.

Restore, Reconnect, Renew

Why Nature Is Part of Our Treatment Model

At Trillium Wellness, our rural setting isn’t a backdrop, it’s an active part of how we treat. Stepping outside the pace of daily life gives our clients space to breathe, and it gives our therapists room to do work that a clinical office simply can’t hold.

Nature therapy at Trillium is structured, therapist-led, and experiential, not simply time spent outdoors.

What We Offer

What Nature Therapy Looks Like at Trillium

Our on-site experiential therapist leads hands-on, outdoor programming designed to help clients reconnect, with themselves, with others, and with the natural world around them. Because we’re situated in a rural setting, we have the space and opportunity to engage in local, land-based activities that many programs simply don’t have access to.
Nature therapy sessions may include:

Guided outdoor experiential exercises

Farm- and land-based activities

Individual and group work conducted outdoors

Integration with our animal-assisted therapy programming

Experts Who Care

A Partnership With the University of Tennessee, Knoxville

We’re proud to partner with the University of Tennessee, Knoxville’s social work program, which has a well-established focus on farm and nature-based therapy. This partnership connects our clinical work to academic depth and to a broader community of practitioners who believe, as we do, in the healing power of the natural world.

Our Unique Offerings

No Other Local Program Offers This

Nature and experiential therapy are often treated as occasional extras elsewhere, a single outing, a one-time activity. At Trillium, they’re built into the core of our residential program. As far as we’re aware, no other residential mental health program in our region offers this level of integrated, experiential nature-based care.

Treating the Whole Person

Nature Therapy Alongside Clinical Care

Nature therapy at Trillium works alongside, not instead of, individual therapy, group therapy, and medication management. It’s one part of a whole-person treatment plan built around our guiding principles: restore, reconnect, and renew.

About Trillium Wellness

Our Story

Trillium Wellness is a new residential mental health program built around a simple belief: healing happens when people feel safe, supported, and truly seen.

We named our program after the trillium, a quiet, three-petaled wildflower that grows low to the forest floor and returns, faithfully, season after season. Like the flower, our care is rooted in three guiding principles: restore, reconnect, and renew.

Our Mission

At Trillium Wellness, we believe that healing begins when individuals feel safe, supported, and acknowledged. Our care is grounded in three guiding principles, represented by the three petals of the trillium: restore, reconnect, and renew. We combine evidence-based clinical care with holistic wellness and nature-centered experiences to help bring balance to the mind, body, and spirit. Our goal is to support each person in rediscovering their inner light, embracing resilience, and leaving with a renewed sense of purpose and lasting wellness.

Helping People in Need

Healing Begins Here

Healing is not just a clinical process; it is a deeply personal journey. At Trillium Wellness, we combine evidence-based therapy and medication management with holistic wellness and nature-centered experiences. Our goal is to ensure that everyone who enters our doors feels safe, supported, and genuinely acknowledged.

Located in the quiet, close-knit community of Knoxville, Tennessee, Trillium offers a peaceful retreat from everyday stress—an ideal space to step back, take a deep breath, and begin anew. Much like the three petals of the trillium flower, our approach is based on three guiding principles: Restore, Reconnect, and Renew.
